Personal Branding Photography

Personal branding photography is the creation of images that tells the story of you and your small business, whether you're a personal trainer, a fashion stylist or a life coach. Branding photos that are carefully styled and crafted to show the people behind the brand as well as the actual product or service that you offer. Your personal brand should reflect consistent colours, personality, style and values and your shoot should represent the day in your life in a way that resonates with your ideal client.

Build the know, like and trust factor

The more familiar people are with you the more they feel they know you. You will attract like-minded people or ideal clients who gravitate towards you because of you stand for or who you are.

Why choose me to take your branding photos?

As well as being an experienced portrait photographer, my background is in marketing. I started my marketing career 20 years ago for a corporate media company and have a solid knowledge of brand marketing. I have worked on many websites, created 3 of my own and have a recent digital marketing qualification with the CIM (Chartered Institute of Marketing) - so I understand what sort of images work well online.

Every business has a story...

Style Signature Boutique

Personal stylist and fashion boutique owner, Marsha, needed a selection of images showing how she would style different outfits that season. Images were created for social media and her website. We headed to London for the shoot to give the images a colourful, urban feel.

WAFA - We are Fit Attitude

Fitness instructor, Anna, was setting up her business as a group exercise and personal trainer in Tooting, London. She needed a portrait of her in branded clothing and a selection of photos showing her training groups and individuals. Her brand has since developed to focus on women-only but I loved creating the images (which included men) for her original website.

Empathetic, warm, on-brand images for Coaching After Loss. Items and clothing which co-ordinated with the brand palette were carefully chosen to give the images a cohesive feel.

Types of usage

Image usage is considered when we're planning the shoot. That way we can make sure we shoot images in the right shape for what you need them for, such as web banners or social media feed. You will also receive all the images in both high resolution (suitable for printing) and low resolution (ready to use online).

How it works

With a branding shoot, it's important to start by nailing down the brief. I send you a pre-shoot questionnaire that will help to clarify your goals and requirements and I set up a Pinterest board which we use as a mood board to share ideas. Once they're completed, I'll have a clear understanding of where you're at and your goals for the session. We'll then start getting a shot list together, considering locations and gathering props and other people to take part (as needed).

What to wear?

As a rule, the images of you should work for your market and expresses your personality and strengths. Think about how you want to come across. You want to look like ‘you’ but in the way you want ‘others’ to see you in your role. And so to show up on your social media feed looking the part, you may need to buy a few on-brand items to wear and to photograph. Any excuse to go shopping!

FAQs

Your headshot should work for your market and expresses your personality and strengths. Think about how you want to come across. You want to look like ‘you’ but in the way you want ‘others’ to see you in your role.

Read my blog post How to Prepare for your Professional Headshot in 7 Easy Tips for more on this

Retouching means editing an image for small details.

Distractions such as stray hairs and temporary blemishes are removed so that the focus is on your expression. Retouching is subtle, it serves to complement the image, not to change how you look.

You will look like you but on a really good day!

Images are also optimised for brightness, colour and contrast to bring out the best in them.

Heavy retouching e.g. tattoo removal, adding hair, softening deep creases is also available for £35 per hour.

The first thing that (almost) everyone says when we start a shoot is "I hate having my photo taken", so don't worry you are not alone! Here are a few helpful tips to help you feel confident and relaxed:

Firstly, try to visualise the photo shoot going really well and imagine how good you’ll feel when you can upload your flattering new headshot as your new profile image.

Secondly, take a look at my blog post How to Prepare for your Professional Headshot in 7 Easy Steps which includes ideas for getting prepared beforehand and combating nerves on the day of / during the shoot.

Thirdly, I am very relaxed when I'm taking the photos and helping you to feel the same way is one of my superpowers. My goal is for relaxed, authentic photos and I'll take lots of shots (up to 100 in 30 minutes) so there will be plenty of images to choose from.

And finally, if there’s anything specific about the photo session or the end results that you feel concerned about, we can discuss this before the session to put your mind at rest.

A quick overview: I have been double vaccinated, I've had my booster and do regular lateral flow tests. If you're having shots at my studio, it is very well ventilated.

Please postpone your shoot if you have tested positive for Covid and I will of course, do the same. Thank you.
